Longkang Tails (New comic strip series) October 27, 2016 13:04
So you know that T-shirt designs based on existing comic characters are a dime a dozen, but have you heard of a comic-strip series that was derived from T-shirt designs?
Not really right, I also say. But I guess we at the Cerealbox Shop are crazy that way. I'm at the airport just weeks ago waiting for my flight back to Phnom Penh where I am based, thinking about what else we could do with the characters we created for the SG Animals T-shirt series. Perhaps it was because I grew up in the '80s, where the idea of creating an animated TV series just to sell toys (think He-man, Transformers, My Little Pony... just don't mention Gobots) is common. So something clicked as I dug into the overpriced Nasi Lemak they sell at the Departure terminal.
What about a periodic comic-strip series featuring the SG animals as characters? Being an avid bird-watching myself, and having spent quite a bit of time around the Park Connectors during my last trip back to Singapore, and believe me, there are a lot of wildlife activities going on in the canals - otherwise known as 'longkangs' - if you have the patience to stop to look, it just made sense to make these ubiquitous part of our landscape the setting for the series.
So there you go. We aim to publish at least one episode a week. But if we don't, you know for sure that it's because we are working on new designs and merchandize.
